Register your swimmer →Our youngest swimmers start at 6 months old. For families in Park Circle, those classes run at the North Charleston Sports Complex on Monitor Street, which is indoors, so toddler swim lessons are not limited to the summer.
From 6 months to 4 years
Seal and Pup for 6 months to 3 years with a parent in the water, Toddler Transition for ages 2 to 3, and Pre-K for ages 2 to 4.
How the early classes work
Seal & Pup 1, 2 and 3
Ages 6 months to 3 years. A parent is in the water for these classes.
Toddler Transition 1 and 2
Ages 2 to 3. The step between a parent and child class and swimming independently.
Pre-K
Ages 2 to 4.
Private and semi-private
Semi-private lessons have 2 swimmers and private lessons are 1 on 1, if a group is not the right fit yet.
For group classes, parents are in the water with their child. What age to start swim lessons goes into when it is worth beginning, and our baby and toddler guide covers the early stages across all our pools.

What to expect early on
- Getting comfortable with water on the face, which takes most toddlers a while
- Floating before anything that looks like swimming
- Short attention spans, which the class structure expects
- Some crying in the first few weeks, which is normal and usually passes
If the crying is the part you are worried about, what to do if your child cries at swim lessons is worth reading before the first class. Why floating comes first explains the order skills are taught in.
Practical bits

Bring one if your toddler needs one, plus a spare.
Bring two towels
Small swimmers get cold quickly once they are out of the water.
Plan the rest of the day around it
A swim lesson takes more out of a toddler than it looks like it does.
