Register your swimmer →It is never too late to learn. We teach adult swim lessons for swimmers 18 and up, including adults who are afraid of the water, and for Park Circle residents those run at the North Charleston Sports Complex on Monitor Street.
Including adults who have never swum
Adult classes cover complete beginners, adults with a fear of the water, and swimmers who can already get across a pool and want better strokes.
How adult classes are arranged
Group
Adult group classes have up to 3 swimmers per instructor.
Semi-private
2 swimmers, which suits couples and friends learning together.
Private
1 on 1, which is where most nervous adults prefer to start.
Military Test Prep
For young adults and adults, covering the swim tests for the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and ROTC.
Military Test Prep sessions are held at the North Charleston Aquatic Center or the North Charleston Sports Complex, so Park Circle is a convenient base for them. Our military swim test prep guide has the detail.
If you are nervous about the water
A lot of adults who come to us have avoided pools for years, and they are often more self-conscious about that than the swimming itself. There is nothing unusual about learning as an adult. Overcoming a fear of water as an adult is written for exactly this, and adult beginner swim lessons covers what the first few sessions actually look like.
- Starting in shallow water, at whatever pace works
- Floating and breathing before strokes
- Private lessons if a group feels like too much to begin with
- No expectation that you arrive able to do anything
