If you have been putting off adult swim lessons in Charleston because you never learned as a kid, or because the water still makes you nervous, you are far from alone. At LowCountry Swim School we teach adults ages 16 and up, and we do it without judgment. Our patient, understanding instructors meet you exactly where you are, whether that means easing you back into the shallow end or refining strokes you already have.

It is never too late

Learning to swim as an adult is completely normal

Many of the adults we teach carry a real fear of the water, and that is okay. Our lessons are built for beginners who feel anxious in the pool. We move at your pace, celebrate every small win, and keep each lesson calm and pressure free so that swimming becomes something you enjoy rather than something you dread.

Why adults choose LowCountry Swim School

Every adult comes to the pool with a different story and a different goal. Here is what our lessons are built to give you.

Overcome fear of water

Patient instructors help you replace anxiety with real, lasting confidence.

Private or small group

Choose one on one, semi private, or a small group of three to one.

Flexible 45 to 60 minutes

Lessons run 45 to 60 minutes and are scheduled to fit an adult life.

Real progress fast

In 10 to 12 lessons many beginners advance to intermediate and advanced skills.

How adult lessons work

1

Get comfortable in the water

We start by building comfort and trust, with breathing, floating, and simple movement, so the water stops feeling like something to fear.

2

Learn to swim safely

Next you learn the core water safety and swimming skills every adult should have, at a pace set by you, not a class average.

3

Advance your strokes

From there we refine technique and endurance. In 10 to 12 lessons many beginners are ready to move on to intermediate and advanced skills.

Adult swim lesson pricing

Choose the format that fits your comfort level and your budget. Every option is taught by the same patient, experienced instructors, and pricing is per lesson.

  • Semi Private (2:1): $52.50 per lesson
  • Private (1:1): $58.50 per lesson

More than a new skill

Learning to swim as an adult is about so much more than technique. It is about walking onto a boat, a beach, or a backyard pool without that quiet knot of anxiety. It is about being able to keep yourself and the people you love safe in the water. Adults who finish our program often tell us the confidence they built in the pool carries into the rest of their life, and many wish they had started sooner.

Where we offer lessons

We teach adult swim lessons across the Charleston area, including on John's Island and at Scott Park on Daniel Island. We also offer lessons in private home pools, which can be an ideal fit if you feel most comfortable learning in a quiet, familiar setting.

Frequently asked questions

Am I too old to learn how to swim?
No. It is never too late to learn. We teach adults ages 16 and up, including complete beginners who have never put their face in the water. Our patient instructors meet you at your comfort level and build from there.
What if I am afraid of the water?
A fear of water is one of the most common reasons adults come to us, and our lessons are built exactly for that. We move at your pace, keep every lesson calm and pressure free, and focus on building trust before anything else.
How long until I can actually swim?
Every adult is different, but in just 10 to 12 lessons many beginner adult swimmers are ready to advance to intermediate and advanced skills. Lessons run 45 to 60 minutes.
Can I take private lessons instead of a group?
Yes. You can choose group (3:1), semi private (2:1), private (1:1), or lessons in a residential private pool. Many nervous adults prefer starting private or semi private for the extra attention and comfort.
